COMMUNITY CO-ORDINATOR SUPPORTING GROUPS AND PROJECTS ON ALSTON MOOR

Alston Moor Partnership is recruiting a self-employed consultant to support and develop the wide range of groups and projects on Alston Moor which contribute to ensuring that the community thrives and supports everyone, and provides opportunities for local people in many aspects of life.

Location
The consultant will be home-based, and expected to travel to meet people around Alston Moor, run meetings and social events, etc as appropriate.

Remuneration
Self employed contract based on 60 hours per month at £25 per hour over a period of up to 15 months. Maximum contract value of £22,500 depending on start date. There will also be a small mileage budget for travel within Alston Moor to meet people, or for any other journey necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the role. Travel from home to Alston Moor (focus of the work) will be at the cost to the consultant

Duration

Up to 15 months, with an initial three-month probationary period.

Interviews and start date
Interviews will be held in the week commencing Monday 10 February, with the expectation of a start date as early as possible (given any requirement to give notice etc) but between Monday 3 March and Wednesday 2 April.

Rôles and responsibilities
• Make contact with groups across Alston Moor; learn about their work, their structure, and what they need to continue working effectively
• Identify potential training needs for groups and/or their members, and identify sources of such training
• Research sources of grant funding for particular projects and needs of these groups
• Identify other work and projects not currently being progressed but needed for the community and its prosperity
• Respond to requests and queries from local groups
• Develop plans for the support, maintenance and continuation of all the work being done by voluntary groups, including effective strategies for recruiting new members
• Identify how groups currently work alongside others both in the local network and also with organisations further afield, and how such collaboration might be improved and broadened for the good of the community
• Work with AMP Steering Group, who will provide information, ideas and support.

Selection criteria
The successful appointee will have
• experience of working with communities – groups and individuals
• understanding of the various structures and organisation in community groups
• some familiarity with the Alston Moor community
• a vehicle and willingness to travel around Alston Moor to meet people
• strong communication skills and ability to establish good working relationships

• a skilled networker
• willing to undertake research to find relevant information and support
• dedicated to ensuring community cohesion
• willing to ask the steering group whenever needed
